Our History
The G. Marconi Society of Sault Ste. Marie holds a distinguished place in the city’s cultural and social history, reflecting the vibrant legacy of the Italian-Canadian community. The Italian Colony in Sault Ste Marie
A report written by the Italian royal Attaché of Immigration, Girolamo Moroni, stationed at Montréal, Québec, Canada. The report was published in the Bolletino dell’Emigrazione in 1914. The Italian government published the Bolletino between 1907 and 1927 to show prospective immigrants what to expect throughout the world if they decided to immigrate. This report provides an indepth look into the Italian community at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and the social and work conditions facing them.

In 1912 a few Italian men began to start a society for members of the Italian community. They
were able to attract 31 members. On December 15 their first meeting was held at the Barnes
Hall on James Street, the Italians chose the Canadian Flag and the Italian Flag to be their official Emblems.
